As of August 1, 2017, the Mopar brand turns 80 years old. Let’s take a journey into the brand’s chronology over the years.
- The Mopar Story begins August 1, 1937, when Chrysler came out with an ethylene-glycol-based anti-preeze. Mopar actually stands for “motor parts”. The name became popular and was trademarked two years later.
- In the 1940’s, Mopar introduced a full line of products to add to it’s antifreeze.
- In the 1950’s Mopar Parts Depot opened in Sprawling Center Line, Michigan. It started distributing goods to the masses during this time.
- In the 1960’s, the first Mopar package cars win at drag-racing. The legendary “omega” M logo also debuted during this decade. “Mopar or No Car” was also coined during this time
- In the 1970’s, Mopar’s “direct connection” performance parts collection was launched.
- In the 1980’s, Jeep parts and accessories became a part of the Mopar portfolio.
- By 2008, Mopar Express Lane Service debuted. By 2010, Mopar was among the first in the industry to offer smartphone vehicle apps. A Mopar Edition Dodge Challenger also debuted in 2010.
- In 2011 and 2012, Mopar went global, expanding operations in Shanghai and Dubai. By 2016, the 1000th express lane center opens. Today, in 2017, Mopar is looking towards the future. It serves 150+ markets and offers 500,000+ products globally.
